SAPN
Associatees approached me to do the garden design work for a unique
development project in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. Providing
affordable housing that did not sacrifice design each unit has its own
garden.
Community
Park area, before. The white building in the background is now called
The Arches. It was the last portion of the develpment to be completed.

The
community park area which fronts 'The Arches' building has several
winding paths that are connected to a central patio in the center. The
patio has tables, benches, umbrellas and is used casually as well as for
the HOA meetings.
This is one area of the development where they cut into the building, allowing for open-air walkways between living spaces.
This
is another area where a building was opened up to allow for an open-air
walkway and courtyard between living spaces. An old set of mechanicals
was removed during construction and returned as sculpture.
As
you scroll down through the pictures below you will be looking at The
Arches the last phase of the International Lofts development.
