Jenna and Randy wanted more from their back garden. They entertain a lot but the guests always stopped at the back door. The new garden was designed not only to pull people into the garden but to send them on a journey through the garden with places to stop and enjoy along the way.

The arbor and trellises that were installed near the back of the garden beckon anyone leaving the house to venture out into the garden. Stone benches, a pond, a hammock, lush plantings, lighting and mood music all encourage stopping points to meditate, chat, party or just watch the honey bees go about their business.

The shed had to go. We put it on Craigslist and gave it away for free. A new shed that was a better fit was installed in a different area of the garden, closer to the veggie beds. The arbor with patio seating took over the show.

The design of this garden pulls people into the back garden but it also offers an array of views and atmospheres depending on where you settle.
