Case Study for Businesses and Organizations

International Lofts  (see portfolio)

Background
SAPN Associates, a local development firm, approached Green Alchemy to do the garden design for a unique development project in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. The project involved an old factory converted to lofted live work spaces.  SAPN had a vision of providing affordable housing that did not sacrifice design and insisted each unit have its own garden.

Challenge
The private garden of each unit was designed as a 'place holder'.  The plantings needed to enhance the architecture, present the new home owner with little challenge, and allow for personal touches in the future.

Solution
In designing the plant pallet I chose Mediterranean plants that would be drought tolerant after establishment. The plants were in scale with the architecture and provided a variety of color, texture and bloom times. Automated drip irrigation was installed throughout.
